Overview

What Is Spin the Wheel?

Spin the wheel is a free online wheel spinner, also called a random wheel or picker wheel, that picks one option from your list at random. Each option gets a slice. When the wheel stops, the slice under the pointer wins.

People use it when a choice needs to be fair and quick: calling on students, drawing giveaway winners, or settling “what’s for dinner?” Everyone sees the same spin, so nobody can argue with the result.

How it works

How to Spin the Wheel

To spin a wheel online, add your options, press Spin, and read the result. It takes a few seconds and works the same on a phone, tablet, or computer.

Add your options

Type one per line or paste a list. Or tap a Quick start button for names, yes or no, a coin flip, numbers, letters, truth or dare, dinner ideas, or prizes.

Press Spin

You can also click the wheel, press the Space bar, or flick it with your finger on a phone.

Get your result

The winner appears in a pop-up. Spin again, remove the winner, copy the result, or save it as an image.

That’s all you need. Everything else on this page is optional.

Fairness

Is This Wheel Spinner Fair and Truly Random?

Yes. Your browser’s secure random number generator (the Web Crypto API) picks the winner the moment you spin. The animation simply shows that result. There is no setting that lets anyone choose the winner.

Every option’s chance matches the size of its slice. On a wheel with 8 equal slices, each one has a 12.5% chance.

Why does the same name win twice?

Because real randomness has streaks. Spin a 10-name wheel 5 times, and there is about a 70% chance that at least one name wins twice. Flip a coin 10 times, and you get exactly 5 heads only about 25% of the time. A repeat is normal. It is not a sign the wheel is rigged.

Chance per slice on an 8-slice wheel
Chance a name repeats in 5 spins of 10 names
Chance of exactly 5 heads in 10 coin flips

Want proof? Hover over any slice to see its exact chance. After a few spins, open the Results tab and tap “Is it fair?” to compare each option’s chance with how often it actually won.

Use cases

Ways to Use Spin the Wheel

A random wheel works anywhere a choice has to be quick and fair. These are the most common ways people use this wheel spinner.

Classroom

Call on students fairly and let absent students sit out. Add a 15-second to 2-minute timer for answers or brain breaks. Turn on “You decide when it stops” so a student can press Stop. In full screen, a presentation clicker spins the wheel with its Page Down button.

Giveaways and Raffles

Paste your entries, choose how many winners you need, and draw them with no repeats. Tap “Save story image” for a 1080 x 1920 picture of the wheel and winner, ready to post as a story. Always follow the rules of the platform where you run your giveaway.

Everyday Decisions

Stuck choosing dinner, a movie, or weekend plans? Spin. A tip from us: if the result feels disappointing, you just found out which option you really wanted.

Parties and Game Nights

Load truth or dare, add the timer for dares, and switch on the 3, 2, 1 countdown. Tally mode keeps score all night.

Meetings and Live Streams

Share your browser tab on a video call or stream, go full screen, and spin where everyone can see. “Read the winner aloud” announces the result for listeners.

Devices

Spin on Any Device

It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets, laptops, and classroom projectors, with nothing to install. On a phone, flick the wheel and feel a light buzz on each slice (on phones that support vibration).

Privacy

Your Lists Stay Private

Your wheels, pictures, and results are stored in your own browser, not uploaded to us. That keeps student names and private lists on your device.

Clearing your browser data also deletes your wheels, so use “Export as file” in Settings for any wheel you want to keep. A share link carries your list inside the link itself, so only share it with people who may see those entries. Pictures don’t travel in links, so send the exported file instead.
